My father was German Jewish. He told me his ancestors were expelled from Iberia in 1492, travelled through the Mediterranean to what is now south Germany and settled in the Furth/Nuremberg area. He said they were of Sephardic origin. Israel is a state for Jews/homeland and haven for Jews, and at least theoretically a Jewish state, as well as a state with nonJews as residents and citizens. Some Jews in Israel are Sephardim, some are AShkenazim, some are Mizrachim, some are Roma Sephardic Jews are closely genetically related to their Ashkenazi Jewish counterparts and studies have shown that they have mainly a mixed Middle Eastern and Southern European ancestry. Due to their origin in the Mediterranean basin and strict practice of endogamy , there is a higher incidence of certain hereditary diseases and inherited disorders in Sephardi Jews.
